Hey Folks,

Hey Folks,

I noticed that i have loooots of old versions now at my server. And i feel there is no need to keep everything available. Especially since those versions were developer versions. I doubt that anybody will ever touch version 0.1 for example. It's no big deal to keep them. I have still some space at my server. But the space is not unlimited.

So, shall we keep the historical material? Or shall we remove it?

Kind regards

Reiner

I don´t think the old

I don´t think the old versions are needed anymore. No sane user would go more than one or two versions back. The only reason to do so would maybe be addons, that don´t work in the newer version anymore. Keeping the latest release based on a specific Blender release might make sense in that regard?

But for me you can ditch them all. Biggrin

Yes, no problem to keep one

Yes, no problem to keep one or two versions behind. You never know what breaks. But as told, i have even version 0.1 still online I-m so happy

The only issue I've seen is

The only issue I've seen is when the Python version is updated and plugins break so we have to wait for that plugins author to get their act together

On that note .9.6 + is a problem for me but if push came to shove I could simply use .0.9.5 to import the scene then save it for use in 0.9.7 (its the skp import/exporter that is on the wromg py version) I think Renderman is too,  but I haven't tried recently, I've given up on it.

Why not support just the 2.79

Why not support just the 2.79 series of Blender, most plugins in development will work  or likely to be updated at some point and remove the earlier ones.. or maybe do a Torrent for older ones?

Torrent means somebody has to

Torrent means somebody has to host the files. Then we could leave it at the server anyways I-m so happy

There's no pressure. The files doesn't really disturb at the moment. I guess i will revisit this issue when it really becomes a problem.

I guess once 2.79 has run its

I guess once 2.79 has run its course and 2.8x becomes the current version you could retire the older 2.79 builds and just keep the last stable one
