Either I am overlooking something again, or this option is missing. – I am trying to make a link (copy a modifier to other objects). According to the manual CTRL-L should work and there should also be a menu item in Object>Make Links. But the shortcut is not working and the menu item is not available?
Hi Davis,
That was one of the many double menu entries. This one has even different names. Make Links in the object menu is the same as Link Data in the tool shelf. And so i have removed the whole menu. Link to SCN became its own menu item.
The make links type can be found in the last operator. And no matter if you change it in the last operator or in the menu, it’s two clicks in any cases. That’s why there is just the Link Data button left now. I didn’t wanted to pollute the tool shelf with the sub menu items.
The task was here: https://www.bforartists.de/content/object-mode-object-menu-remove-double-menu-entry-make-links
Kind regards
Reiner
Hm, i notice that there is now one item missing. Transfer UV maps. Seems that i have to reinvestigate here O_O
I’ll make an issue.
Ok, thanks for the explanation. Easy to find, if you know where to look. ^^
The “transfer UV” is in the Object menu along with “transfer mesh data”, that´s where I expected “link” as well.
Damn, Transfer Mesh Data is another double menu entry. It never ends
Thanks for telling
Just curious, would it be better to have the menu items in the text menu again? What do you think?
For intuitive use having everything related to data linking under the “object” menu would make more sense somehow. But having it under relations is faster for repeated use I believe, because once I navigated there, I can keep linking materials, modifiers, etc for multiple object groups without having to dig through menus again. The best alternative for intuitive use and speed would probably be to bring back the shortcut and the popup menu from blender, that can also be called from the “object” text menu.
Yes, this is also what i think. And that’s why i want to put as much content as possible into the tool shelf. We will not make the Object menu completely obsolete. But the most used tools should be at one place.
The full hotkey map is on its way again
Yeah, I use the link data in the toolbar quite a bit…. Wish there was the dropdown list near the button though, instead of that botton corner.
Make an issue
Will do

Thanks
