Hi everyone, hopefully I haven’t broken any rules but I did look to see if there is a sticky topic for new users to come and say hi (couldn’t see one)
Are there any suggested starting points / videos / tutorials with links for new users?
I might be one of those users bforartists is aimed at as I have tried Blender since 2004 and always hated the interface and Blender way of doing things. I’m hoping this approach is the answer I’ve been looking for.
Anyhow, hello to everyone! Hope to still be around in 3 months (that means I have learned the software!)
Hi I dream of noodles,
There is no dedicated welcome thread yet. Welcome
The first place that you could watch is the official learning videos, the Quickstart series. Note that some might be a bit outdated here and there. For example, the tools are now all in the tool shelf.

The second place is the manual. It’s fully searchable. And is more complete than the Blender manual.

And you can always ask here in case you get stuck
Kind regards
Reiner
Thanks Reiner! Oh and well done for all your work trying to make Blender more user friendly.
One quick question as I just watched a video on the differences between Blender and Bforartists – you let users turn the 3D cursor off.
I’ve never seen a 3D cursor in other 3D programmes – why is it used and is it essential to creating a model or animation? That 3D cursor has always bugged me…
You’re welcome
The 3D cursor is a useful tool for sure. You can do quite a few good things with it. See the snapping panel. You can also rotate around this cursor instead of the selected object. But it does not need to be visible all the time. For me it’s also in the way very often. That’s why i made it hidable as one of the first actions.
The good news is, in Blender 2.8 you can finally hide it too.
Hi is it normal that I have to keep resetting my password? I’ve had to do the one time password thing several times now. Each time I have set a new password and then next time I log in – my password doesn’t work or is not recognised.
EDIT: have locked and hidden the 3D cursor until I work out why I need it. Thanks for the help so far – going to have a play with the software now.
Huh? A once set password should work. I have no idea what is going on here
EDIT, have logged in with a dummy account, and had the problems you describe. Changing the password then fixed the issue. But i couldn’t find anything obvious. And it works fine for others. I have cleared the page cache now. Maybe this fixes your issues. And i will have an eye at this problem!
Issue for the login problem created: https://github.com/Bforartists/Bforartists/issues/253
@I dream of noodles, just curious, with the passwort reset, have you actually changed your password, and saved it? This could be the problem here. When you request a new password, then the old one gets reset. And when you don’t type in a new password and save the settings, then this account doesn’t have a password at all.
@dummy – no, I enter a new password each time. Just had to do it all again to reply your post.I’ll try something different – happy to post my password to a Mod to try for me. Not like I’m going to steal bank account details or vice versa!
Dummy is my second account. Sorry for the confusion ^^
Have you SAVED the user settings after reentering the password?
